By Matt McCarthy,

Red Sox first baseman Mitch Moreland has been activated from the injured list after missing the last two weeks with a low back strain.

Moreland was placed on the 10-day IL on May 29 and has not played since May 26. He still leads the team in home runs with 13 and has a club-best .550 slugging percentage.

To make room on the roster, the Red Sox optioned right-hander Ryan Weber to Pawtucket. Weber failed to make it out of the second inning in his start against the Royals on Thursday.

Weber made six appearances for the Sox, including three starts, and compiled a 5.12 ERA.

Moreland will return to the lineup Friday night against the Rays.
