BOSTON – The Red Sox saw their four-game winning streak snapped in a 5-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays Friday night at Fenway Park.
The Sox mustered just four hits on the night and were stifled by Rays starter Yonny Chirinos, who tossed eight scoreless innings of two-hit baseball.
Boston scored their lone run in the ninth inning on a Xander Bogaerts double.
Rick Porcello was tagged for four runs over six innings of work. With the loss, the right-hander dropped to 4-6 in 2019.
Ji-Man Choi and Kevin Kiermaier hit solo home runs in the win. Kiermaier had three RBI on the night.
The Sox and Rays will play a doubleheader Saturday. Boston trails Tampa Bay by six games in the American League East. The Yankees are 6 1/2 games ahead of the Sox for the division lead.
