BOSTON – The Red Sox picked up a series split with the Detroit Tigers with a 7-3 win Thursday night at Fenway Park.
Rick Porcello earned his first win of 2019, improving his record to 1-3 with six innings of three-run ball. He allowed six hits, walked two, and struck out five.
Rookie Michael Chavis, starting once again at second base, delivered again for the Red Sox. He hit his second big league home run, a two-run shot, as part of a 1-for-4 night.
Mookie Betts went 2-for-4 with a run-scoring double. After a slow start to the season, Betts has raised his average to .260 and his OPS to .826.
Rafael Devers had two runs batted in while Andrew Benintendi and J.D. Martinez each added RBIs of their own.
The Sox open up a weekend series with the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday.
