The Red Sox new look lineup last just three games.
Manager Alex Cora has scrapped his plans to bat Andrew Benintendi in the leadoff spot with Mookie Betts hitting second, at least for the time being.
In an interview with MLB Network Radio, Cora said he plans to return Betts to the leadoff spot for the near term. Betts batted second for the first three games of the year, before he was moved up to leadoff on Sunday when Benintendi sat out with a sore knee. Benintendi was back in the lineup on Monday, batting second behind Betts.
Cora added that he could rearrange the lineup when Dustin Pedroia and Steve Pearce return from the injured list. Pearce could be back in action as soon as this weekend's series in Arizona, while Pedroia is set to begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Greenville on Thursday and could potentially return for next week's home opener at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox announced plans to alter their lineup at the Winter Meetings in December. Betts and Benintendi hit first and second respectively for nearly every game in 2018.
