There will be no reunion between the New England Patriots and free agent wide receiver Danny Amendola, as the veteran wideout has instead decided to sign with the Detroit Lions, per multiple reports.
Former Dolphins’ WR Danny Amendola plans to sign with Detroit, per source. Amendola is in Detroit now, taking a physical and as long as there are no complications, he will be a Lion, reunited with GM Bob Quinn and HC Matt Patricia. #Lions

According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the deal in Detroit comes with a $4.5 million base salary for Amendola, but could be worth up to $5.75 million if Amendola hits on all the incentives in the one-year pact.
Amendola’s new deals comes after a season in which he caught 59 passes for 575 yards and a touchdown in 15 games with the Miami Dolphins.
But it’s of interest for two reasons, the biggest being that the 33-year-old Amendola is a known name on the open market, as he spent five seasons with the Patriots, winning two Super Bowl titles and emerging as a go-to target for Patriots quarterback Tom Brady over that run. The other reason was also ‘mutual interest’ in a reunion, according to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe.
The Patriots enter free agency with just one wideout from their Super Bowl roster (Julian Edelman) under contract for the 2019 season.
