Boston Red Sox

By Matt McCarthy,

The Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly interested in signing Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel, and apparently they don’t want to stop there.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Phillies want to sign Bryce Harper and lefty Dallas Keuchel in addition to Kimbrel.

The Phillies have not been shy about their willingness to spend money this offseason, but it remains to be seen if they are prepared to make that type of financial commitment to three players who are seeking to break the bank in free agency.

Kimbrel’s market has been quiet this offseason. Red Sox President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski indicated last week that they do not plan to spend big money on a closer.

The Phillies have already made a significant investment in their bullpen this offseason, signing David Robertson to a two-year, $23 million contract.

According to Jon Heyman, Philadelphia is not expected to make a push for both Harper and Manny Machado.

The Phillies met with Harper’s representatives in Las Vegas last week.

Keuchel, the best remaining pitcher on the market, is said to be seeking a five or six-year contract.
