Effective today, Josh Gordon has been returned to the Reserve/Commissioner Suspended list indefinitely for violating the terms of his conditional reinstatement under the Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.
The suspension is not a shock per earlier reports, and comes just hours after separate statements from both Josh Gordon and the Patriots touching on the 27-year-old Gordon’s decision to walk away from football to focus on his own health.
Gordon’s suspension history is long and noteworthy, with bans that kept him out of the league in 2015 and 2016, and limited him to just five games in 2017. Gordon was in the midst of a definite revival in New England, too, with 40 catches, 720 receiving yards, and three touchdown grabs in 11 games with the Patriots this season.
With this latest suspension, Gordon could be facing a potential “banishment” from the NFL, per Ian Rapoport.
