The short-lived Ian Kinsler era in Boston has come to an end.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Kinsler is on the verge of a two-year deal with the San Diego Padres.

Kinsler will reportedly split time between second base and third base for the Padres and is being counted on to provide veteran leadership to young infielders Luis Urias and Fernando Tatis Jr.

Kinsler appeared in 37 regular season games for the Red Sox and appeared in eight games in October.

He was acquired at the trading deadline in July for pitching prospects Williams Jerez and Ty Buttrey, the latter of whom went on to close games for the Angels late in the 2018 season.
