By Matt Dolloff,

Josh McDaniels was asked about those rampant head coaching rumors, and … well obviously he didn’t have much to say about it.

But of course, when stories like the ones about McDaniels start to surface before the season is even over, you have to Ask The Question™. So Josh, what’s the deal with those rumors that you might be interested in coaching the Green Bay Packers or elsewhere next season?

“I don’t really worry about the future, and honestly, each week is a tremendous challenge. We try to stay in the moment and think about the task at hand,” said McDaniels, via NESN’s Zack Cox. “I didn’t do nearly well enough in my job when we went down to Miami last year.”

So, that’s it. We’re on to Miami.

No surprise that McDaniels wasn’t going to say anything directly about any recent reports, including that he has “real” interest in the Packers’ head coaching job in the wake of Mike McCarthy’s firing. There are also coaching assistants around the league who are planning their futures around the possibility of joining McDaniels wherever he goes.

It’s highly likely that the truth won’t be known about McDaniels’ future until much later in the season, perhaps after it’s over. Hard to believe that he’s not thinking about it at least a little bit. But hopefully, he’s also devoting most of his time and energy right now to beating the Miami Dolphins, because the Patriots offense needs to play better on the road and the team needs to keep winning.

Carry on.
