The Patriots had an uncommonly light roster of players present at practice on Wednesday, as they get ready to play the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football. Running back Sony Michel, unsurprisingly, was not present during the media availability portion of practice. He’s considered week-to-week with a knee issue, despite narrowly avoiding a season-ending injury against the Bears.
Rob Gronkowski was also among the players not present at practice on Wednesday. He’s dealing with an ankle injury and also a back injury that cropped up last week. It’s quite possible that the Patriots sit him for a second straight week. They probably don’t need a less-than-100-percent Gronk in order to beat the 2-5 Bills, who have scored 81 points all season.
Also among the players not spotted at practice were tackle Marcus Cannon, cornerback Eric Rowe, defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. All three appeared on the injury report last week, with Cannon missing Sunday’s win over the Bears with a concussion. Rowe is likely still dealing with a groin injury, which kept him out from Weeks 3-5. Wise was listed with both knee and ankle injuries.
On a positive note, rookie cornerback Duke Dawson returned to practice on his first day of eligibility. The Patriots placed him on injured reserve before the start of the season with a hamstring injury.
The first injury report for Patriots-Bills is due out Wednesday afternoon around 4 p.m.
