The San Francisco 49ers fear that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a torn ACL in the team’s Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said following his team’s 38-27 defeat.
With his 49ers in pursuit of a fourth-quarter comeback and driving into scoring range, Garoppolo attempted a rush towards the sidelines when it appeared that his left knee gave out before contact with the Chiefs’ Steven Nelson.
The 26-year-old Garoppolo was carted off the field and exited the game with 251 yards and two scores on a 20-of-30 day. Garoppolo came into action having thrown for 467 yards and three touchdowns.
Traded by the Patriots midway through the 2017 season, Garoppolo started the final five games of the 2017 season for San Francisco, throwing for 1,560 yards and seven touchdowns as the Niners went a perfect 5-0.
Garoppolo signed a five-year deal worth up to $137.5 million last offseason.
