Patriots left tackle Trent Brown was absent from practice for the second straight day, according to multiple reports out of Foxboro. However, ESPN’s Adam Schefter quickly reported that Brown has been out due to an “excused absence”.
Brown, who was hugely impressive throughout his first training camp with the Patriots, will practice Wednesday. He’s expected to play Sunday against the Houston Texans at Gillette Stadium, according to Schefter.
Although the left tackle’s absence is fortunately not injury-related, Bill Belichick is highly unlikely to give an update on any injuries that do exist during his first press conference of the 2018 regular season on Wednesday. He’ll most likely defer to the official injury report, which will be due on Wednesday afternoon.
Here are some more details from Patriots practice on Tuesday, via reporters down in Foxboro…
— New arrivals: WR Jace Billingsley and OT Eric Smith warmed up, indicating that they’ve been added to the practice squad. … G/C Brian Schwenke re-signed with the team in the wake of Amara Darboh hitting waivers, according to Mike Reiss. … WR Chad Hansen warmed up with the receivers.
— According to Mike Garafolo, Darboh is having surgery on Tuesday, which made the Patriots’ decision to waive him rather easy. Hansen enters the regular season as the fourth receiver on the Patriots depth chart.
Other players worth keeping an eye on in practice attendance during the week, due to limitations in previous sessions: RBs Rex Burkhead and Sony Michel, and rookie CB Duke Dawson.
