CHICAGO – The Red Sox dropped game two of their four-game series against the White Sox 6-1 Friday night on the South Side of Chicago.
The White Sox jumped on Nathan Eovaldi immediately, scoring three runs off the right-hander in the first inning. Former Red Sox farmhand Yoan Moncada hit a two run homer, his 17th of the season.
A rain delay lasting over two hours chased Eovaldi and White Sox starter Michael Kopech from the game, but the Red Sox weren’t able to tee off on Chicago’s bullpen like they did in Thursday’s 9-4 win.
Andrew Benintendi drove in the lone run for Boston on a solo home run, his 16th in 2018.
White Sox outfielder Avasail Garcia had a big night, going 3-for-4 with a run-scoring double.
First baseman Matt Davidson hit a three-run homer off Tyler Thornburg in the seventh inning.
Thornburg was charged with three runs in an inning of work while Eovaldi (5-7) was tagged with three runs in two innings.
Boston and Chicago will play game three of their series on Saturday. Eduardo Rodriguez (11-3, 3.44 ERA) is set to make his return from the ankle injury that has sidelined him since mid-July. The White Sox will counter with Carlos Rodon (6-3, 2.70 ERA).
