Even for Michael Felger, his latest scorching hot sports take was a huge stretch. In a new debate on the one-year anniversary of the Celtics’ acquisition of Kyrie Irving from the Cavaliers, Felger says ‘edge Cavs’.
Never mind the outstanding production the Celtics got out of Kyrie Irving compared to the meager return the Cavs got on their package of players. But since the Cavs still beat the C’s to make the NBA Finals, Kyrie couldn’t finish the season, and Cleveland got the eighth overall pick in the 2018 draft in the trade … after exactly one year, the Cavs have clearly gotten more out of the trade, according to Felger.
He conveniently fashioned his take so you can’t count the fact that the Cavs still had LeBron James and were probably going to make the Finals either way. Or that the C’s have Kyrie for another season with a great chance to make the Finals in 2019. Or that the No. 8 pick is no guarantee to produce a game-changing player, as Felger himself has argued in the past.

Add this all up, and Felger simply needs a call from Toucher & Rich’s Hot Take Police. Listen to the full segments and ensuing debates in the above podcast. But as Fred Toucher points out, the show ended up getting two segments of debate out of it and Felger & Mazz had a lively back-and-forth on the take. So perhaps Felger and his preposterous take still wins in the end?
