Boston Celtics

The Las Vegas Westgate Superbook is in on the Boston Celtics, as they have given the Celtics the league’s second-highest win total for next season, with a 57.5 win mark for the Green’s over/under. For context in regards to how stacked Vegas thinks the Celtics are for 2018-19, it’s worth noting that only the back-to-back champion Golden State Warriors, at 62.5, are higher.

The 57.5 comes on the heels of the Celtics winning 55 games and coming within one win of the NBA Finals last season, and doing it without superstar free agent addition Gordon Hayward for the entirety of the regular season and playoffs. On-floor leader Kyrie Irving, who battled knee issues before ultimately requiring season-ending surgery, also missed the postseason.

Those 55 wins, by the way, were the most by the Celtics since Brad Stevens took over as the team’s head coach in 2013.

But the projected bump upwards comes with the expected return of both Irving and Hayward at 100 percent, and after obvious in-season leaps taken by both Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, who emerged as legitimate building blocks for the franchise after tremendous postseason runs as the Celtics’ top scoring options.

The Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors share the second-highest over/under in the Eastern Conference, at 54.5 wins. The Raptors added Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green (though at the expense of DeMar DeRozan) this offseason, while the Sixers are hoping for continued growth from Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, and a hopefully fixed shot from Markelle Fultz. From there, however, the East takes a considerable dive south, with the Pacers’ 47.5 standing as the fourth-best in the conference.

LeBron James and the Lakers, meanwhile, were given an over/under of 48.5 wins.

If the Celtics hit the over, it would be their most wins since a 62-win 2008-09 season.
