Stew Milne-USA TODAY SportsThe New England Patriots drafted Isaiah Wynn to play on the offensive line. But on Monday night, the rookie was called upon to show some ball skills.
Watch below as Wynn catches a punt at the end of the Pats' evening practice session in front of season ticket holders at Gillette Stadium. The 21-year-old, whom the Patriots drafted 23rd overall out of Georgia in April's draft, was tasked with fielding the punt cleanly in order to reward the rest of the team. Per Patriots defensive tackle Danny Shelton, Wynn earned the team no curfew for the next two nights.
Wynn actually dropped his first attempt to the disappointment of his teammates, according to multiple reports. But out of the goodness of his heart, Bill Belichick gave the kid another chance. And he delivered.
Pretty good performance under pressure for the rookie.
Now, the Patriots get to enjoy two free nights in a row before getting back to work on Wednesday in Foxboro, thanks to their top draft pick. Trent Brown may be in the lead to start at left tackle right now, but Wynn is certainly the MVP tonight.
