Bob DeChiara/USA TODAY SportsThe Boston Celtics have waived forward Abdel Nader, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.
The moves come with a contract guarantee looming over both Nader and the Celtics -- his deal would have become guaranteed had he still been on the roster on Aug. 1 -- and opens up a roster spot for the Celtics.
That vacated spot on the C's roster could be used to sign 2017 second-round pick Jabari Bird to a deal. Bird led all Celtic scorers in Summer League play this year, with 16.8 points per game and shot 57 percent from the field.
The 6-foot-6 Nader appeared in 48 games for the Celtics last season, and averaged 3.0 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.
A native of Egypt, Nader was drafted by the Celtics with the 58th overall pick in 2016.
