Tom Brady was already expected to report to training camp for the New England Patriots on Wednesday, July 25, when veterans are expected to arrive in Foxboro. But the quarterback is hinting that he’ll be getting started even sooner than believed.
Based on his comment on a new Instagram post by the Patriots, Brady responded to the caption “6 days ’til [training camp]” with his own comment: “2 days actually! #earlyreporters”. So Brady can reasonably be expected to arrive at Gillette Stadium on Monday, rather than next Wednesday.
Not that this comment proves there’s nothing wrong with Brady and Bill Belichick. But it’s certainly intriguing that he’s willing to get started early on training camp, after reports indicated that he’d only attend mandatory workouts during the offseason.
Training camp is essentially the start of football season, and Brady is getting an early jump on it. That can only help him and whatever teammates of his may arrive early with him. There may still be issues for him to sort out with Belichick, but at least Brady isn’t trying to avoid the head coach like the plague. That was the sense from the myriad reports during the offseason, and also his presence at Patriots mandatory minicamp, where he and Belichick never directly interacted with each other while on the field.
Perhaps his early arrival signals that things are getting back to normal, or that they’re about to. Even if it doesn’t change anything in that regard, for once Brady is doing something that’s a good sign for him and the football team. There’s been too much out of the ordinary going on with Brady, especially in light of the fact that he didn’t attend any voluntary organized team activities all offseason.
It’s about time he did something that’s more like the Brady everyone knows.
