Boston Celtics

Center Aron Baynes is staying with the Boston Celtics thanks to a two-year, $11 million contract signed just minutes into the start of NBA free agency, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.

Baynes himself took to Twitter to confirm the news.

Keith Smith reports that the second year of Baynes’ contract is a player option.

In his first season with the Celtics, the 31-year-old Baynes played in 81 games (with 67 starts), and averaged a career-high 18:20 of action per contest. Baynes also set a career-high in rebounds per game (5.3), and averaged six points per contest.

Baynes, who won a title with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014, was also a tremendous fit within Celtics coach Brad Stevens’ system.

The 6-foot-10 Baynes also addressed the black hole that has been the Celtics’ center depth in recent years, and will continue to do that in 2018-19, with 2018 first-round pick Robert Williams III behind him on the C’s depth chart.
