Steven Wright Dominates, But Red Sox Can’t Solve Mariners’ LeBlanc in 1-0 Shutout Loss
The Boston Red Sox got an outstanding start from knuckleballer Steven Wright, but couldn’t scratch a single run across the board against Wade LeBlanc and the Seattle Mariners in a 1-0 loss at SafeCo Field.
LeBlanc allowed just two hits over 7.2 dominant innings, striking out nine. Wright, meanwhile, hurled seven innings of one-run ball with five hits and two walks in the tough-luck loss.
Mariners designated hitter Nelson Cruz drove in the only run of the game with a single in the bottom of the third inning.
Up Next: The Red Sox will try to salvage a split of the four-game series in Seattle on Sunday. Eduardo Rodriguez (8-1, 3.64 ERA) takes on Mike Leake (7-3, 4.26 ERA).
