Fans of the Washington Capitals got a special message from the captain Alexander Ovechkin following their, 4-3, Stanley Cup clinching win on Thursday night.
After falling to Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburg Penguins numerous times in the playoffs and having to live in Crosby’s shadow for so many years, Ovi finally got his shot to hoist the cup over his head as a champion.
The NHL loves to pump up the face that Crosby has owned Ovechkin, but now it’s his turn to bask in the glory of winning. And now he gets to put all the bull crap to rest.
So good for you Ovi, you deserve it!
During a post-game interview, Ovechkin made it a point to give a special shout out to Caps fans all over the world with this message below:
“Fans we did it, get some beers, get some whatever and start celebrating. We are the Stanley Cup champions! Washington Capitals baby!”
The pure joy on his face is priceless. The grays in his hair really show his age (32). – Actually, no it doesn’t. Maybe it’s because of all the stress he’s under in the league. Or maybe it’s just “bad” genes.
But regardless, Ovechkin can finally have his named etched into NHL history for eternity on the Stanley Cup.
The Capitals defeated the Las Vegas Golden Knights, 4-1, in the best-of-seven series to claim their first ever Stanley Cup.
