Patriots wideout Julian Edelman is facing a four-game suspension for a violation of the NFL performance-enhancing substance policy, according to multiple reports from ESPN.

The news comes on the final day of the team’s mandatory mini-camp at Gillette Stadium, which has featured Edelman back in a prominent role after the 32-year-old receiver missed all of last season due to a torn ACL suffered in the preseason.
“Everyone’s a competitor, so sometimes you’re your worst own enemy when you’re trying to do that,” Edelman said earlier this week when asked about pushing himself during this long recovery. “But, it is what it is and there’s a big part of the process and I’ve got a lot of guys, training staff helping me out – TB12, all that stuff – to get to where I want to be.”
In addition to his 98 catches and three touchdowns, Edelman totaled a career-high 1,106 receiving yards in 2016.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Edelman will try to fight to have this decision overturned.
