J.R. Smith had a chance to help the Cleveland Cavaliers take Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals over the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night, but he totally blew it thanks to his lack of awareness.
With only 4.7 seconds left in a tied game, Smith snags the offensive rebound off of a George Hill missed free throw, and for whatever reason, I guess we’ll never know, he dribbles the ball out to almost half-court as time is expiring. [See Below]
Following the game LeBron James was questioned about Smith’s bone-headed play after the missed freebie. And LeBron’s reaction to reporters’ questions is simply amazing!
You can hear it in his voice that he’s totally annoyed and aggravated. And he just wants to get the hell out of Dodge.
Once he had enough of the nonsense, he decided it was a good idea to hit the bricks in dramatic LeBron fashion. And when I say fashion, I’m not talking about his epically heinous outfit either.
Anybody who’s in LeBron’s shoes there would be just as annoyed. Especially if you just dropped 49 points in regulation and had a chance to win the series opener in the closing seconds.
There’s no excuse for Smith’s lack of awareness and situational basketball at the tail-end of the game.
The main question here is, how did Smith not have a clue on what the score was or the time remaining in the game after standing outside the paint for more than 30 seconds awaiting Hill’s pair of free throw attempts.
I guess we’ll never know.
Better luck next time Smith!
