Bogaerts Goes 3-For-4 In Return, But Red Sox Lose 4-3 To Rays At Fenway

Xander Bogaerts went 3-for-4 in his return to the Red Sox lineup, but despite the shortstop's best efforts, Boston fell to the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 on Friday night.

Bogaerts looked like he didn't skip a beat after returning from an ankle injury, raising his batting average to .405 on the season. J.D. Martinez led the team on Friday with two RBIs, scoring Mookie Betts on a double in the sixth inning and again on a single in the eighth.

Rays starter Blake Snell pitched 7.1 strong innings, allowing just two runs on five hits and a walk with nine strikeouts.

Up Next: The Red Sox (19-6) take on the Rays (11-13) in the second game of the series on Saturday, with David Price (2-2, 2.93 ERA) taking on Yonny Chirinos (0-1, 2.92 ERA).
