The 2018 NFL Draft takes place at the Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. So naturally, there will be some Cowboys greats involved in the announcement of selections. But they'll also be involved in an attempt to protect commissioner Roger Goodell.
That is, to protect Goodell from being showered with boos when he takes the stage at the start of the draft on Thursday night. According to ESPN's Todd Archer, Goodell will be accompanied by former Cowboys and NFL Hall of Famers Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman, in addition to likely future Hall of Fame tight end Jason Witten.
"I'm sure he's going to get a good response with us being out there," Staubach told ESPN. "If they boo, all of us are in trouble."
The strategy might work, but it won't make Goodell any less detested among NFL fans across the country. Talk about a smokescreen.
