New England Patriots

By Matt Dolloff,

Jimmy Garoppolo offered his reaction to a recent video clip depicting him appearing to take some verbal cues from Tom Brady.

The now-San Francisco 49ers signal-caller ostensibly learned a lot about the quarterback position over his first four years in the NFL, when he mostly sat behind Brady and only got real game action when Brady was suspended or pulled at the end of blowouts. It remains to be seen if Garoppolo’s actual play on the field will be even remotely as prolific or consistent as Brady, but he certainly learned a thing or two about how to communicate with his teammates.

Watch below to see Garoppolo re-packaging some “Brady-isms”:

According to Phil Barber of The Press Democrat in Santa Rosa, Garoppolo confirmed he saw the clip – and was a little off-put by the “creepy” similarities.

“Obviously I’ve picked up some stuff from him,” said Garoppolo. “But I saw it, and it’s a little weird.”

Copying verbal tics like “Let’s go!” and “We need a good drive, fellas” is nice, but of course it will come down to how Garoppolo looks when he actually throws the ball. He certainly flashed in his five starts with the 49ers, all wins. He posted a 96.2 passer rating and 67.4 completion percentage in six games last season, despite a weak 7-to-5 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

We’ll see how Garoppolo plays, but this video is a good indication of how he’ll speak.
