Boston Red Sox

No big surprises in the Red Sox Opening Day lineup, as the 2018 edition of Boston’s favorite baseball team begins its quest to improve upon last year’s league-worst home run totals.

J.D. Martinez will play DH and bat cleanup in his Red Sox debut. Red Sox lefty ace Chris Sale takes the mound against the Rays’ Chris Archer on Thursday afternoon at Tropicana Field.

Most of the lineup was known leading up to Thursday. But it wasn’t clear until now who would bat fifth and sixth between shortstop Xander Bogaerts and third baseman Rafael Devers. It turns out that Bogaerts will back up Martinez in the five-hole.
