The Patriots' interest in signing Johnny Manziel could be real.

According to the Boston Herald's Karen Guregian (via Jeff Howe on Twitter), the Patriots met with the former Texas A&M quarterback both before and after his workouts at his alma mater's Pro Day on Tuesday. This comes after the team also reportedly met with him at the San Diego Pro Day.

Manziel has become something of a reclamation project after flaming out with the Cleveland Browns, who drafted him 22nd overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. He's also had a long list of off-field problems with both substance abuse and allegations of domestic violence.

There would be few bigger lightning rods in the league that the Pats could sign. But in terms of pure on-field upside, he almost certainly has a better long-term outlook than Brian Hoyer.
