Monroe started the 2017-18 NBA season in Milwaukee before being traded to Phoenix as part of the Eric Bledsoe trade.
The New Orleans Pelicans were said to be the front-runners in the race to sign Monroe, but were only able to come up with half the amount the Celtics were offering.
