New England Patriots

The Celtics’ Jaylen Brown may wear Celtics green, but on Sunday he’s wearing Jaguars teal. He admitted in a postgame interview on Thursday night that he’s rooting for his cousin, Jaguars cornerback A.J. Bouye.

Specifically, he’s rooting for Bouye to do something that hasn’t happened to Tom Brady in the playoffs in eight years. He hopes the dynamic young corner pulls a Ty Law and picks off Brady not once, not twice, but three times.

“Absolutely [I’m watching the game], and I’m gonna have my Jaguars jersey on when I do it,” said Brown. “Good luck to the Patriots, but I hope my cousin picks off Brady three times and takes it to the house.”

The concerning part is, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Bouye could grab an interception. Three is a tall order, of course. But Bouye recorded six interceptions and earned second team All-Pro honors in his first season in Jacksonville.

Patriots fans obviously hope that Brady avoids throwing any interceptions on Sunday, but if he actually had three the Patriots could be in trouble. Amazingly, the Patriots are 2-1 in the playoffs when Brady throws three interceptions – but two of those wins came against the Chargers. And the loss came in the 2009 Wild Card game against the Ravens, a.k.a. arguably the ugliest defeat of Brady and Bill Belichick’s careers in New England.

Can’t blame Jaylen Brown for rooting for his cousin to win a big game over the Patriots. Doesn’t mean the locals had to accept it, though.

All in good fun, of course. But hopefully, for the sake of the Patriots, Jaylen couldn’t be more wrong.
