The Boston Bruins crushed the Columbus Blue Jackets 7-2 on Monday to avoid a three-game losing streak.

Following a tough overtime loss to the Rangers Saturday night, the Bruins were able to find a way to put seven pucks into the back of the net.

Brad Marchand picked up his 14th goal of the season with less than six minutes to play in the first to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

During the Bruins' first power play of the second period, David Backes picked up his third goal of year and his first on the power play since returning to the ice. On the Bruins' next man advantage, Charlie McAvoy joined the scoring party with a one-timer off a nifty pass from fellow rookie Jake DeBrusk to give the Bruins a 3-0 lead.

Tensions were high early in the third period, and McAvoy had enough with Pierre-Luc Dubois, which triggered their first career fights. With the fight, McAvoy became the first Bruins player to record a "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" since Zdeno Chara on Nov. 29, 2013.

BONUS NOTES:

-- DeBrusk and Heinen each had a goal and two assists.

-- Bergeron, Backes, Marchand and McAvoy each had a goal and an assist.
