Boston Celtics

Tonight the Utah Jazz came into the TD Garden and knocked off the Boston Celtics 107-95 bringing their season record to 24-7.

The Celtics started off the game strong jumping out to a 26-21 lead at the end of the first quarter before struggling to put points on the board in the second. During the second quarter, the Celtics went 10:27 without making a field goal and during that stretch they missed 19-of-20 shots, while making only four field goals in the same quarter.

It was a tough night shooting for Marcus Smart and Jayson Tatum. Smart didn’t make his first basket until 2:41 into the third and Tatum didn’t make his first basket until there was 3:10 to play in the game.

Throughout the game the Celtics’ bench struggled to find chemistry and the bottom of the net as they were outscored 50-to-26. Jazz forward Jonas Jerebko was feeling it as he put up 17 points (6-8 FG/2-3 3PT) off the bench against his former team. In addition to Jerebko’s stellar performance, Ricky Rubio posted his second highest point total of the season, 22, with rookie Donovan Mitchell contributing 17 points and a career high nine assists.

Both team’s trainers kept busy tonight as the the Celtics lost Daniel Theis to a facial injury early on and the Jazz lost Rudy Gobert (knee) and Derrick Favors (eye laceration) during the game.

Kyrie Irving leads all scorers with 33 points and Al Horford chips in with 21 points, six rebounds and seven assists. As a team, the Celtics were out-rebounded 55-31 and shot only 40 percent from the field.

Saturday night the Celtics hit the road to play the second of a back-to-back against the Memphis Grizzlies. Tip-off is set for 9:00 p.m. Catch the call of the game with Sean Grande and Cedric Maxwell live from Memphis on 98.5 The Sports Hub. Pre-game coverage begins at 8:30 p.m.
